Changed boating conditions

16 May 2014

Boaters are advised to keep clear of a section of the Kalang River from Monday 19 May until Tuesday 10 June for the building of a temporary bridge as part of the Pacific Highway upgrade.

Roads and Maritime Services said navigation in the river will be restricted approximately 1.4 kilometres upstream of Newry Island at Urunga.

Lights and shapes will be suspended under the closed bridge spans and a navigation channel will be marked with lit buoys.

Vessel operators are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating in the vicinity of the new bridge and pay particular attention to work vessels and buoyed off areas.

This warning remains in place for the duration of the work.

Vessels should not enter the exclusion zone unless authorised by a boating safety officer or a police officer.

Roads and Maritime remind people to wear a lifejacket when boating, especially in craft under 4.8m when alone, at night or offshore.
