Reminder notice for paddle boat removal

27 May 2014

Roads and Maritime Services yesterday issued a reminder to the owner of a paddle boat semi submerged in the Murray River near the Mildura weir to provide a detailed timeline and salvage plan or request an extension to the clean up notice.

Roads and Maritime Acting Director Maritime Michael Wright said the vessel owner has been given until the end of May to remove the 38 metre vessel, Avoca.

“While we understand it will be a big job to remove the vessel from the water, we still have not received a salvage plan indicating timing,” Mr Wright said.

“The letter we have issued today asks the owner to provide evidence all reasonable steps have been taken to put this plan in place.

“If this evidence is deemed satisfactory, the owner could apply for an extension on the removal deadline and avoid compliance action.

“If Roads and Maritime is forced to carry out the salvage of the vessel, these costs will be passed on to the owner,” Mr Wright said.

The vessel has been boomed and there has been no indication of pollution. Roads and Maritime is monitoring the situation daily.
