Changed traffic conditions from Sunday on M4 Motorway for off ramp upgrades
Motorists are advised changed traffic conditions will be in place for ten night shifts from Sunday 29 June for work to upgrade the M4 westbound off ramps and Russell Street intersection at Leonay.
“The off ramp at Russell Street has been identified as a critical pinch point as westbound vehicles using the off ramp to exit the M4 queuing back onto the motorway, blocking through lanes and increasing the risk of high speed crashes,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.
“The NSW Government has allocated $2 million from the $246 million pinch point program to upgrade the intersection by installing metered traffic lights at the southbound approach to the roundabout on Russell Street and a queue detector on the M4 off ramp.
“A new 90 metre left turn lane on the roundabout approach is also being built as part of the project.
“The westbound off ramp to be closed from the M4 Motorway from Sunday 29 June for 10 weeknight shifts between 10pm and 5am until Friday 11 July, weather permitting.
“Road users are asked to follow the direction of traffic controllers and to adhere to reduced speed limits and follow traffic signs.
“Motorists will be detoured to the Mulgoa Road exit to travel to the Great Western Highway and rejoin Russell Street.
“Motorist should allow extra time as the detour is expected to take at least 15 minutes,” the spokesperson said.
