Goldfields Way widening work reaches half way mark

27 June 2014

A $2.3 million project to widen Goldfields Way near Barmedman has reached the half way mark with the completion of stage two.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the NSW Government provided $500,000 for the second stage work which involved widening a 1.2 kilometre section of road about three kilometres south of Barmedman.

“This work provides motorists with a safer road and wider clear zone, while also reducing future maintenance costs,” the spokesperson said.

“This is another example of Roads and Maritime Services working to improve safety and maintain roads in western NSW.

“The first stage of work on a one kilometre section of road was completed in May last year.

“Funding of $463,000 was allocated in the recent NSW Budget for the third stage of widening work and the community will be notified when a start date is confirmed.

“Roads and Maritime Services thanks the local community for their patience while changed traffic conditions were in place for this important upgrade work.”

Bland Shire Council carried out the stage two work on behalf of Roads and Maritime.
