Night work continues to improve bus travel times at Newtown
29 August 2014
Night work to continues from Sunday 31 August to improve the reliability of inner west bus services and reduce journey times on Erskineville Road at Newtown.
“The NSW Government is working to improve journey times, including in the inner west by introducing bus priority infrastructure along key corridors, including more bus and transit lanes and priority at traffic lights,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.
“After community consultation earlier this year, work started this month to streamline bus stops and traffic arrangements to improve the journeys of bus customers.
“The NSW Government provided $715,000 toward improvement work between King Street and Angel Street at Newtown and involves assessing water mains, electricity utilities and carrying out excavation.
“Work will be carried out between 9.30pm and 5am from Sundays to Thursdays, weather permitting.
“Full lane closures will be in place while the work is carried out to ensure safety of road users and workers.
“Road users are asked to follow signage and traffic controllers and observe reduced speed limits.
“Every effort will be made to minimise the impact on residents and businesses.”
