Changed boating conditions for rowing regatta on Hunter River

12 September 2014

Boaters are reminded to keep clear of a section of the Hunter River near Duckenfield this weekend for the safe staging of a rowing regatta.

Roads and Maritime Services has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence to Endeavour Rowing Club to host the event on the Hunter River from 7:30am to 5:30pm on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September. The event area will be marked by buoys and monitored by control vessels.

Skippers should avoid this area as it will be closed to recreational and commercial boating for safety reasons.

Vessels not involved in the event should not enter the marked area unless authorised by a boating safety officer or a police officer.

Authorised local vessel traffic will be able to navigate the area through a marked zone where vessels must not exceed 4 knots, produce no wash and follow directions of police and boating safety officers.

Roads and Maritime reminds people to wear a lifejacket when boating, especially in vessels smaller than 4.8 metres when alone, at night or offshore.
