Excellence in surveying award for Roads and Maritime Services
26 September 2014
Roads and Maritime Services continues to be recognised for its road building expertise taking out the infrastructure and construction category of the prestigious NSW Excellence in Surveying and Spatial Information Awards, announced recently.
Director of Asset Maintenance Greg Evans said the win marked the 19th excellence award for Roads and Maritime in the 16 years of the Institution of Surveyors NSW awards - more than any other organisation or business.
“This year Roads and Maritime was acknowledged for its excellence in managing the survey for stage one of Westconnex, the largest integrated transport and urban revitalisation project in Australia,” Mr Evans said.
“More than $1.5 million was invested in the final ground survey model for WestConnex which will be used throughout the life-cycle of the project, from concept and detailed design through to major work.
“The survey data collected as part of this project will serve as a strong foundation to build the new motorway and for the revitalisation of Parramatta Road across the next 20 years.
Mr Evans said the entry, submitted by the agency’s Geospatial Technologies unit, was judged on factors such as the complexity and size of the project, the use of innovative technologies and how strategic thinking was applied to solve problems.
“This award demonstrates the excellence of Roads and Maritime staff in the surveying and spatial information industry and is another example of the outstanding contributions of our staff for the benefit of the community,” Mr Evans said.
“Not only was the survey data collected used to prepare and evaluate the concept design which formed the basis of the WestConnex planning application, it was also used to develop concept videos for community consultation.
“I am hugely proud of our team for their great achievement.”
Mr Evans said Roads and Maritime partner Resource Design and Management Pty Ltd (RDM) also took out the Rural Cadastral Surveying and Land Titling category for work on the Glenugie upgrade, a Northern Region Pacific Highway project.
