29 October 2014
Roads and Maritime Services is advising motorists changed traffic conditions will be in place as night work starts next month as part of The Esplanade and Fairfax Road intersection upgrade at Warners Bay.
A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said the NSW Government has provided $3 million this year to continue the intersection upgrade which aims to improve safety and reduce congestion for the more than 20,000 motorists daily.
“Work under way includes replacing the existing roundabout with traffic lights, widening The Esplanade to two lanes in each direction and installing two right turn lanes from Fairfax Road onto The Esplanade,” a Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.
“Road resurfacing will be carried out at night between 7pm and 5am from Sunday 9 November for four nights, weather permitting.
“The project is part of Roads and Maritime’s efforts to improve safety on Fairfax Road and The Esplanade and deliver high quality infrastructure to the community and businesses of the Hunter region,” a Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for their patience while this important work is carried out.
Signs will be in place to inform motorists of the changed traffic conditions and access, including lane closures. For the latest traffic information, visit www.livetraffic.com, download the Live Traffic App or call the Transport Management Centre on 132 701.
