Signage safety improvements start on Dorrigo Mountain
8 December 2014
Roads and Maritime Services is making major changes to the road signage along the Waterfall Way at Dorrigo Mountain to improve safety for all road users.
“Signage changes will be carried out at Newell Falls and Sherrard Falls where the road is reduced to one lane to give priority to motorists travelling up the mountain,” a Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.
“The new signage will indicate to motorists travelling down the mountain they will need to give way to traffic coming the other way.
“The road will be reduced to one-way next to the low concrete wall on Dorrigo Mountain and new give-way signage will be installed giving priority to road users travelling up the mountain.”
The changes to give-way and additional signage are adopted recommendations from the safety review carried out earlier this year.
New signage will be installed the week starting 15 December 2014 and electronic message signs will also advise motorists of the changed conditions.
Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and follow all signs.
Community members are advised Roads and Maritime is also conducting a review of speed limits on Dorrigo Mountain with results expected to be published next year and may result in future changes to speed limits.
