Have a say on safety improvements on Main Road Toukley
29 January 2015
The community is invited to have a say on proposed safety improvements on Main Road at Toukley.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the proposed safety improvements would include a new 40km/h speed zone on Main Road in the main business area and pedestrian safety improvements east of Dunleigh Street.
“In the five years to June 2012 there were 56 crashes over the 1.7 kilometre road length resulting in 34 injuries,” a Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.
“The Australian Government is providing $380,000 through the Black Spot Program to improve safety and reduce the occurrence of crashes at this location.
“The work would also involve upgrading the line-marking and providing a painted median along Main Road between Cross Street and Peel Street.
“Following community consultation work would start in March this year and take around two weeks to complete, weather permitting.
“A community information session to view the proposal will be held at Toukley Country Women’s Association Hall on 175 Main Road at Toukley on Tuesday 11 February from 3pm to 7pm.
“Written comments are invited until Friday 20 February to Jarrod Taylor, Asset Maintenance, Roads and Maritime Services, Locked Bay 2030, Newcastle 2300 or by email to Jarrod.Taylor@rms.nsw.gov.au.”
For further information please contact project officer Jarrod Taylor on (02) 4924 0312.
Roads and Maritime will review community feedback after consultation to inform a preferred approach.
A letter inviting community feedback has been distributed to community members.
