Changed traffic conditions for Abbotsford Bridge upgrade
6 March 2015
Roads and Maritime Services advises motorists changed traffic conditions will be in place for a systems upgrade of the Abbotsford bridge starting this Monday 9 March.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said Roads and Maritime would carry out the electrical and mechanical maintenance work on the bridge on the Silver City Highway, also known as the Calder Highway in Victoria, over the Murray River at Curlwaa.
“Work is expected to take about two weeks to complete and will include installation of a new control panel and improved safety systems for the bridge,” the spokesperson said.
“This will include installing boom gates to ensure road users do not access the bridge as it is lifting.
“The upgrade for the 234 metre long bridge originally built in 1928 aims to improve its safety and operation.”
Work will be carried out from Mondays to Saturdays between 7am and 5pm.
During work there may be traffic delays of up to 20 minutes due to the need to raise and lower the bridge for work to be carried out.
Motorists should allow extra travel time, plan their trip and follow all signs and traffic controller instructions, including a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h.
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for their patience during this important upgrade work.
