6 March 2015
Roads and Maritime Services will complete a $1 million project this week to improve safety on a section of the Castlreagh Highway near the Telstra tower, north of Coonamble.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said work was carried out on a 2.1 kilometre section of the road to improve safety for all motorists who use the key outback transport route.
“The project involved widening significant sections of the road to provide wider shoulders and more room for vehicles which leave the road to recover.
“It was also rebuilt in places to strengthen the road to reduce future maintenace costs. The entire length was also resurfaced to improve ride quality for motorists,” the spokesperson said.
“Coonamble Shire Council carried out the work on behalf of Roads and Maritime.
“The work was part of ongoing work by Roads and Maritime to deliver safe and efficient road infrastructure through all parts of NSW,” the spokesperson said.
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience during this important maintenance upgrade.
