Widening work starts on the Gwydir Highway west of Collarenebri

Roads and Maritime Services advises motorists there will be changed traffic conditions from Monday 9 March for work starting on a $700,000 project to widen the Gwydir Highway west of Collanrenebri.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the work would involve widening an 18 kilometre section of the highway and road shoulder to improve motorist safety.
“The road surface will also be rebuilt where needed along the length of the project, followed by resealing and line marking,” the spokesperson said.
“This project is part of Roads and Maritime’s commitment to improve safety and efficiency on this key rural freight and transport route and reduce future maintenance costs.
“Work will be carried out on weekdays from 6am to 6pm, weather permitting.
“During work, mobile traffic lights will be in place to guide motorists and traffic will be restricted to one lane for the safety of workers and motorists.
“Motorists should plan their trip, allow extra travel time and folllow all signs including a reduce 40 km/h speed limit.
“Outside work hours the speed limit will revert to 60 km/h and 80 km/h through the site.
“Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience during this important highway improvement work, which is expected to be completed mid-year, weather permitting,” the spokesperson said.
