Changed traffic conditions at Narooma Bridge as upgrade work continues
24 APRIL 2015
Roads and Maritime Services advises motorists of changed traffic conditions from Monday as the second stage of work starts on the upgrade to the Narooma Bridge opening system.
Work will be carried out on weekdays between 6am and 6pm and weekends, including every second Sunday, between 6am and 3pm until early June to install new gates, traffic lights and an automated locking system to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians.
One lane will be closed between 7am and 5pm to ensure the safety of road users and workers with traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h. There will be no lane closures on Sundays.
Motorists can expect short delays and pedestrians and cyclists will be escorted across the bridge by traffic controllers where necessary.
A vessel will also be under the bridge to help workers for the duration of work.
A no wash zone will be established 200 metres upstream and downstream of the bridge and will be marked by signs. The northern and southern ends of the bridge will be closed to boating traffic.
Vessel operators are asked to be cautious when navigating near the bridge and pay attention to the work vessel, lighting and any temporary signage.
Major bridge closures of around 30 minutes will take place every hour at night on Wednesday 13 May and Thursday 14 May between 10pm and 3:30am.
Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience while this work is carried out.
The NSW Government allocated $1.1 million to upgrade the bridge’s opening system, with the first stage of work carried out last year.
