Have a say on the next round of improvements around Sydney Airport North

Community members are invited to have a say by 11 September on road upgrades north of Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport.

“The NSW and Australian Governments are investing more than $282 million to reduce congestion and improve safety around Sydney airport, improve access to the future WestConnex motorway and reduce existing bottlenecks,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.

“The Sydney Airport Masterplan 2033 includes a new one way road system through the T2/T3 domestic terminals to improve traffic flow in the airport.

“To reduce travel times and increase capacity, Roads and Maritime has developed a strategic concept design to reconfigure Robey Street and O’Riordan Street to enable upgrades to the internal road network in Sydney Airport.

“As part of the work the southern sections of Robey Street and O’Riordan Street would be converted into one way roads, O’Riordan Street widened to provide six through lanes between Bourke Street and Robey Street and the existing traffic lights reconfigured on O’Riordan Street between Qantas Drive and Bourke Street.

“Building is expected to start in the coming months for WestConnex enabling work east of the airport including widening Joyce Drive and General Holmes Drive between O’Riordan Street and Mill Pond Road to three lanes in each direction.

“This work includes extending the Wentworth Avenue corridor to enable the closure of the General Holmes Drive rail level crossing to improve rail freight movement, access to the airport, Mascot and eastern suburbs.

“Every effort will be made to reduce the impact of work during the Sydney Airport precinct improvements.

“Roads and Maritime Services sought comments from the community and stakeholders on the Review of Environmental Factors proposal for the Airport East between February and March 2015.

“Project approval has been granted for work both East and West of the airport.
“A submissions report has been prepared to respond to the feedback received and inform the community of the decision to proceed with detailed design of the upgrade.

“Feedback is invited by Friday 11 September on the Airport North plan in writing to ‘Airport North Precinct’, Roads and Maritime Services, PO Box 973, Parramatta CBD NSW 2124 or by email to AirportNorth@rms.nsw.gov.au
