Early work starts on Stage One Northern Beaches Hospital road upgrades
2 October 2015
Early investigation work is under way on stage one of a $500 million NSW Government funded project to provide road upgrades and essential access to the new Northern Beaches Hospital.
The NSW Government is planning major road upgrades in two stages on key routes including Warringah Road, Forest Way, Frenchs Forest Road and Wakehurst Parkway.
“Stage one connectivity work will provide essential access to the new hospital, while stage two will help increase capacity on the supporting road network, reduce congestion and improve traffic flow,” A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.
“Work is now under way to establish a site compound on the corner of Warringah Road and Wakehurst Parkway in preparation for major construction which is expected to start later this year.
“Other work will include stormwater, drainage and utility investigations and ongoing development of the project design.
“A Ferrovial York joint venture was awarded the contract to design and construct the road upgrades surrounding the hospital.
“Work will generally be carried out Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm, weather permitting.
“Some work will need to be carried out at night to minimise impacts on the road network but we will notify residents and businesses in advance of any night work.
“The community is invited to learn more about the upgrades at the temporary project information centre open Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm at Level 3 Building 1, 14 Aquatic Drive Frenchs Forest.
“Work is expected to be completed in 2018 in advance of the opening of the new Northern Beaches Hospital,” A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.
Earlier this year Roads and Maritime prepared an Environmental Impact Statement for the stage two network enhancement work to increase road capacity and reduce congestion.
The submissions report is expected to be published later this year.
