Hills M2 launches competition to transform roadside
19 October 2015
Hills M2 has launched a nationwide competition offering $27,000 in prize money for innovative artistic ideas to transform an unused site next to the Hills M2 Motorway in Macquarie Park.
The M2 Macquarie Park Ideas Competition will encourage and challenge designers, artists and architects, among others, to come up with design elements and artistic solutions to contribute to the site’s transformation.
Transurban CEO Scott Charlton said the competition will recognise bold and creative thinking that benefits communities and the environment.
“Visible by more than 100,000 motorists daily, the art installation will complement extensive planned bushland regeneration and become a new and prominent landmark that encourages similar works elsewhere in Sydney,” Mr Charlton said.
Landcare Australia has been engaged to carry out an ecological regeneration of the site, which will be replanted with local native species.
The M2 Macquarie Park Ideas Competition follows in the footsteps of the successful Power Street Loop Ideas Competition held in Melbourne earlier this year.
The competition opened on 12 October and closes on 23 November. The winners will be announced at an Awards Event on 10 December 2015.
