M1 Pacific Motorway closures for essential maintenance

29 October 2015

Roads and Maritime Services advises motorists trial closures on a 10 kilometre section of the M1 Pacific Motorway between the Hunter Expressway interchange and John Renshaw Drive intersection will be carried out next month.

“Closures are being trialled as part of Roads and Maritime’s commitment to improving the safety of road workers near live traffic and reducing the impact to motorists in the long term,” a Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.

“Southbound lanes of the M1 Pacific Motorway will be closed between 8pm and 5am on Sunday 15, Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 November and northbound lanes will be closed between 7pm and 5am on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 November.

“About 250 workers will be working for the five nights to carry out a large volume of work in a short amount of time, which would not be possible with single lane closures in place.

“Major maintenance activities to be carried out include concrete heavy patching, road resurfacing, drainage and road shoulder improvements, safety barrier repairs, bridge maintenance, line marking, litter collection and vegetation maintenance.”

Changed traffic conditions will be in place with detours via the Hunter Expressway and John Renshaw Drive throughout the closures. Road closures and temporary access will also be in place on Black Hill Road and Lenaghans Drive.

Electronic message signs and traffic control will be in place to help direct motorists.
