Night work to progress Schofields Road upgrade
7 December 2015
Essential night work will be carried out from tonight to progress the $135 million Schofields Road upgrade between Tallawong Road and Veron Road and ensure Railway Terrace is re-opened to traffic ahead of Christmas.
“The NSW Government is pushing ahead to progressively upgrade Schofields Road to four lanes between Windsor and Richmond roads to improve capacity along this key east-west corridor in the North West Growth Centre,” A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.
“Essential night work will be carried out along Railway Terrace from Schofields Railway Station to Advance Street to install and connect water main pipes and progress the Schofields Road and Railway Terrace intersection upgrade.
“Accelerating this scheduled work will enable Railway Terrace to be re-opened to traffic between Schofields Road and Advance Street on Friday 18 December, weather permitting, helping to improve traffic in the area ahead of Christmas.
“To minimise the impact on road users and local residents, work will be carried for five shifts from Monday 7 December until Friday 11 December between 10pm and 5am, weather permitting.
“A partial road closure will be in place while work is under way between Schofields Railway Station and Schofields Road.
“Work will continue to be carried out on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm.
“The work forms part of the Schofields Road upgrade stage two which has been fast tracked with a $70 million commitment from the Housing Acceleration Fund.
“The upgrade will provide significant benefits, improving travel for road users between the Rouse Hill and future Marsden Park town centres, Schofields Railway Station and future Sydney Metro stations.”
A temporary 40 km/h reduced speed limit will be in place while work is under way to ensure the safety of workers and motorists.
Traffic control and signs will be in place to help direct motorists and electronic message signs will display any changes to work dates and times.
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience while this essential upgrade is carried out.
