Have your say on improving bus service reliability in Sydney's Inner West
8 December 2015
Community members are invited to have their say about planned bus stop changes in Sydney’s Inner West which aim to improve the service and reliability of local bus services.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said feedback was being sought on a series of changes to bus stops in Rozelle, Lilyfield, Leichhardt, Annandale and Camperdown as part of the ‘Sydney’s Bus Future’ project developed by Transport for NSW, Bus Operators and Roads and Maritime.
“’Sydney’s Bus Future’ aims to achieve 95 per cent reliability of bus services across the network by making minor changes which improve traffic flow and bus service efficiency,” the spokesperson said.
“Changes to bus stops along Darling Street, Balmain Road, Perry Street, Norton Street and Parramatta Road are proposed to improve bus service punctuality and travel times.
“The proposal involves reducing the number of locations where buses need to stop through combining and removing some bus stops and where possible reinstating on street parking.
“Bus stop facilities would also be upgraded to allow longer buses and more services to stop at major locations.
“Norton Street in Leichhardt is a popular restaurant destination. To reduce congestion, two northbound bus stops 160 metres apart will be replaced by one bus stop. Two bus stops heading towards Parramatta Road are 145 metres apart and will also be combined into one.
“The change would create an extra five car park spaces along the road, reduce congestion by limiting the number of bus stops and improve bus service reliability.”
Residents and businesses and encouraged to review the full suite of proposed changes at www.rms.nsw.gov.au/bpp or contact the project hotline for more information 1800 575 250.
