Maintenance work continues on Ryde Bridge at Rhodes and Ryde

26 SEPTEMBER 2017

The community is reminded of continuing maintenance work on Ryde Bridge at Rhodes and Ryde to strengthen the bridge’s structure and improve safety for motorists.

A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said the work is being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s $1.5 billion maintenance program which helps maintain and improve roads across the state.

“Essential maintenance work is progressing well on Ryde Bridge to repair and repaint the bridge on the northbound lanes of Concord Road,” the spokesperson said.

“Work has already been carried out to establish a site compound, install scaffolding under the southern side of the bridge, remove rust, repair concrete and steel as well as steel strengthening work and painting under the bridge.

“Crews are continuing to carry out work to clean, fix and repaint steel under the bridge and replace steel beams under the footpath.

“Work is also continuing to clean, fix and repair concrete on the northbound footpath and along the road next to the footpath.”

Work is scheduled to be carried out between Tuesday 3 October and Thursday 30 November, weather permitting.

To minimise the impact to motorists, night work will be carried out between 8pm and 5am, excluding Saturdays. Work will also take place on weekdays between 7am and 6pm and on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm.

“Work is expected to take around 54 day shifts and 20 night shifts to complete and may be noisy at times but all measures will be taken to minimise impact to residents,” the spokesperson said.

“Pedestrians and cyclists are advised the northbound footpath will be closed for work to be carried out and detours onto the southbound footpath will be in place.”

Traffic control and lane closures will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

Roads and Maritime Services thanks the community for its patience while work is carried out.
