Sturt Highway speed limit change on the way

6 OCTOBER 2017

The speed limit will be reduced on the Sturt Highway at Gol Gol next week to improve safety for all road users.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the existing 80 km/h speed limit will be reduced to 60 km/h from 80 metres east of Dawn Avenue to 120 metres west of Carramar Drive.

“Roads and Maritime carried out a review of the speed zone along the Sturt Highway through Gol Gol after feedback from the community and Wentworth Shire Council.

“The review assessed a number of factors including crash history, road geometry, road usage, nearby development, traffic volumes and the number of access points.

“The crash rate on this section of the Sturt Highway is almost double the average for this type of road. Reducing the speed limit will provide a safer environment for motorists and pedestrians.”

The new speed limit will come into effect on Monday 9 October.

Electronic messaging signs will be in place to advise motorists of the new reduced speed limit.

Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and to have a say on speed limits.
