Boating upgrades for Lake Macquarie
13 October 2017
Major NSW Government funded boating upgrades at Balmoral Reserve and Toronto’s Lions Park are now completed ahead of the summer boating season, Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC announced today.
“The two projects are worth almost $900,000 and aim to improve safety as well as access to the region’s waterways,” Mr MacDonald said.
“At Lions Park the boat ramp was replaced with a bigger concrete ramp which enhances larger vessel access to Kooroora Bay.
“Work at Balmoral Reserve included widening the boat ramp manoeuvring area, upgrading parking as well as the boat rigging and wash down areas.” Greg Piper, Member for Lake Macquarie welcomed the completion of upgrades.
“I’m really pleased that we’re seeing this Boating Now funding flow through to Lake Macquarie projects at Toronto, Balmoral and Sunshine,” Mr Piper said.
“Lake Macquarie is Australia’s largest coastal lake and attracts huge numbers of locals and tourists to the water each summer. These upgraded facilities will help to ensure they can do so easily and safely.”
Mr MacDonald said the upgrades complement improvements to boating infrastructure at Thomas Humphries Reserve, The Esplanade at Swansea and Sunshine Park at Sunshine.
“This work will ensure local and visiting boaters and watersport lovers continue to make the most of the region’s natural resources”.
“The improvements are a great example of what can be achieved by working with councils, stakeholders as well as the community with funding from Boating Now”.
“The community must be thanked for its patience while work was carried out and should come and check out the new and improved infrastructure.”
