Look out, kids about! new school zone on Broadway at Glebe
19 December 2017
Motorists are advised to be aware of changed traffic conditions on Broadway at Glebe with a new school zone being installed this week.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said a new 40 km/h school zone will be installed along Broadway between Glebe Point and City roads to increase safety for school children.
“Roads and Maritime Services recently carried out a review of the road outside The Australian Performing Arts Grammar School after a request from parents of students,” the spokesperson said.
“After the review was completed, it was determined a school zone needed to be provided as Broadway provides direct access points to the school.
“In general 40 km/h school zones are provided on roads with an active direct access point from the school.
“School zones help protect children on their way to and from school at times and places where they are often present in high numbers.
“This lower speed limit will reduce the risk and potential severity of a crash.”
Once installed, the new 40 km/h school zone will operate from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm on gazetted school days.
The spokesperson said motorists are reminded to drive to the speed limits at all times for the safety of all road users.
“Crews will be onsite until Wednesday 20 December from 7pm to 5am to install the new school zone signs, weather permitting,” the spokesperson said.
“Once the signs are installed, the new school zone will come in to effect from Monday 29 January next year.
“Motorists and the community are thanked for their patience while work is carried out.”
Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website www.saferroadsnsw.com.au to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area.
