Plan ahead for road closures this weekend on Pennant Hills Road at North Parramatta
15 JANUARY 2018
Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions this weekend on Pennant Hills Road at North Parramatta to install a new pedestrian bridge at the intersection of Masons Drive and Glencoe Avenue to improve safety for pedestrians.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said Pennant Hills Road will be temporarily closed to all traffic between James Ruse Drive and Bettington Road from 9pm Saturday 20 to 9am Sunday 21 January for the safety of workers and motorists while work is carried out.
“The new bridge will improve safety by separating pedestrians from a busy main road and provide a safer accessible crossing for people with limited mobility, prams and bicycles,” the spokesperson said.
“Work has already been carried out to clear vegetation, move and protect heritage pillars and build the foundation of the bridge so installing the bridge is the next step before the community can take a walk on the new piece of infrastructure.
“Work will involve setting up traffic control, establishing a crane and lifting and installing the pedestrian bridge.”
The spokesperson said there will be disruptions to motorists but the closure will allow the work to be carried out as efficiently as possible.
“Traffic will be heavy and delays are expected so all motorists travelling through this area should plan ahead and allow extra travel time this weekend,” the spokesperson said.
“Access will be maintained for local residents and emergency services but motorists should drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control while work is carried out.
“Road users are advised to use alternative routes including James Ruse Drive, Kissing Point Road and Bettington Road during the closure.
“The detour may add up to 30 minutes to all trips so road users are encouraged to plan ahead.
“The work may generate some noise and every effort will be made to minimise impact to the community.”
Roads and Maritime will continue to work with the community and thanks all road users for their patience while work is carried out.
