School zone extension for O'Connell Street Public School at Parramatta
18 January 2018
An extended school zone will be in place on Marist Place and Market Street at Parramatta to ensure all pedestrians will be able to enter and exit the new O’Connell Street Public School safely.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the existing school zone on Marist Place will be extended 155 metres and the school zone along Market Street extended 65 metres to improve safety for pedestrians and provide better cover for school access points.
“Roads and Maritime reviewed the school zone and will be extending the existing zone after the Department of Education confirmed the brand new school will be open in time for Term 1 this year,” the spokesperson said.
“In general, 40 km/h school zones are provided on roads with an active direct access point from the school.
“The 40 km/h school zone will operate between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm on gazetted school days.”
The spokesperson said motorists are reminded to drive to the speed limits at all times for the safety of all road users.
The new school zone signs are expected to be installed from Monday 22 January, weather permitting.
The extended school zone will be in operation from Monday 29 January.
