Call for tenders to upgrade Major Jerrabomberra intersection
29 March 2018
Improved travel times are one step closer for motorists travelling between Jerrabomberra and the ACT as part of a $12 million upgrade to a major intersection.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson today announced tenders to carry out the work at the intersection of Lanyon and Tompsitt drives are now open.
“This is a significant day for the community as it means relief is on the way for the 25,000 motorists who travel through this intersection daily,” the spokesperson said.
“The intersection of Lanyon and Tompsitt drives is located on one of the major access routes into the ACT from NSW.
“The intersection does not meet current traffic demand in peak times and major improvements are needed so drivers spend less time on the road and more time doing the things they enjoy.
“Work involves replacing the existing roundabout with traffic lights to reduce congestion and cater for traffic growth.”
Interested and suitable companies are invited to submit a tender application, with the successful applicant expected to be announced in June and work set to start before the end of the year.
“The calling of tenders is the important next stage in the planning process and will allow work to soon get under way,” the spokesperson said.
“Roads and Maritime chose the preferred option after carrying out detailed investigations to determine the most effective option for the intersection work.”
The community will continue to be kept informed as the project progresses.
