Proposed pedestrian safety improvements on Dora Street at Morisset

29 March 2018

The community is invited to provide feedback on a proposal to improve pedestrian safety on Dora Street at Morisset.

The NSW Government allocated $500,000 for a proposal to install mid-block traffic lights on Dora Street to help pedestrians safely cross the road.

A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said in the five years to October 2017 there were two pedestrian crashes at this location which resulted in injury.

Traffic lights will replace the existing painted pedestrian crossing on Dora Street.

“The proposal also involves installing kerb extensions and ramps on both sides of the street to improve access and line of sight for pedestrians at the traffic lights, and minimise impacts on parking,” the spokesperson said.

Seven parking spaces will be removed to allow safe use of the traffic lights by pedestrians and motorists.

Six parking spaces will be reinstated around 20 metres west of the traffic lights when the existing painted pedestrian crossing is removed.

The community is encouraged to send feedback by Tuesday 17 April to Roads and Maritime Services, Locked Bag 2030 Newcastle NSW 2300.

All feedback received will be taken into consideration and the community will be kept updated as the project progresses.
