Intersection upgrade around the corner on Maitland Road and Duffie Drive at Cessnock
4 April 2018
The journey is about to become smoother through the intersection of Maitland Road and Duffie Drive at Cessnock with upgrade work starting from today.
A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said the NSW Government provided $2.9 million under the Safer Roads Program to improve safety and also traffic flow at the intersection.
“In the five years to March last year, there were 10 crashes within 50 metres of the intersection, including eight crashes which resulted in injury,” the spokesperson said.
“Work will involve building a single lane roundabout, widening the road to retain the separate left turn and through lanes for motorists travelling west.
“The upgrade will also involve improving street light at this intersection. Cessnock City Council will deliver the work on behalf of Roads and Maritime.”
Work will start on Wednesday 4 April from 7am to 5pm on weekdays and is expected to be completed by late July, weather permitting.
For the safety of workers and motorists, a reduced 40km/h speed limit and traffic control will be in place during work hours.
The right turn into Duffie Drive from Maitland Road will be temporarily closed while work is carried out.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
