Plan ahead of Macquarie Pass closure for maintenance work
4 April 2018
Easter has been and gone and the school holidays are just around the corner, but first, Roads and Maritime Services will carry out essential maintenance on Macquarie Pass.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the work is being funded under the NSW Government’s $1.5 billion maintenance program which aims to improve the state’s 18,028 kilometre road network.
“Some of the drains along this important thoroughfare between the Southern Highlands and the Illawarra need to be cleared of leaves and debris after recent heavy rain,” the spokesperson said.
“This work is crucial as it will improve water runoff and in turn help to improve safety for road users on this stretch of road.
“The work will require the full closure of Macquarie Pass on Friday 6 April between 9am and 3pm to ensure it is carried out as safely and efficiently as possible.”
Roads and Maritime is committed to reducing the impact of closures like this which is why work is being carried out after Easter and before the school holidays.
Light vehicles will be detoured via Jamberoo Mountain Road and should allow an extra 10 minutes of travel time.
Heavy vehicles will be detoured via the Hume Highway, Picton Road and the M1 Princes Motorway and should allow an additional 20 minutes travel time.
Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience while this important safety work is carried out.
