Parking changes on the way along Bunnerong Road Matraville
6 April 2018
Parking conditions along Bunnerong Road at Matraville are set to change after essential intersection improvements were completed last month.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said a review of existing ‘No Stopping’ zones was carried out on the Bunnerong Road approaches to the intersection and Roads and Maritime Services identified the extension of the zones would significantly improve traffic flow.
“Roads and Maritime recently carried out work to change lane configurations, install new turning arrows and build new kerb ramps to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists,” the spokesperson said.
“Work is now proposed to extend the ‘No Stopping’ zones on the northern and southern approaches to the intersection to further improve safety and efficiency along Bunnerong Road.
“The extension of the zones will result in the loss of around 10 restricted parking spaces on the southern approach to the intersection.
“Some restricted parking spaces will also be removed on the northern approach to the intersection.”
The spokesperson said these changes would enhance the improvements to the intersection of Bunnerong Road, Franklin Street and Perry Street.
“This is good news for motorists who use this intersection as these changes will improve journey time reliability and reduce travel times for road users,” the spokesperson said.
“These changes will also increase capacity for vehicles turning left onto Perry and Franklin streets from Bunnerong Road.
“The installation of the new ‘No Stopping’ signage is expected to start in early April after consultation with local businesses.
“The community will be kept informed as the project progresses.”
