Shovels out for work on Illawarra and Hume Highways interchange
1 May 2018
Motorists are advised changed traffic conditions will be in place from next week on the Hume Highway and Illawarra Highway interchange at Sutton Forest.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said work to improve road user safety will be carried out on the bridge across the Hume Highway at the interchange with the Illawarra Highway.
“Work will involve repairing concrete, upgrading guardrail, clearing vegetation and protecting the slopes next to the bridge,” the spokesperson today said.
“The work is funded under the NSW Government’s $1.5 billion annual maintenance program which aims to improve the state’s 18,028 kilometre road and bridge network.
“This package of work is vital to keep all road users including locals, tourists and freight operators moving on these important transport routes.”
The spokesperson said work will take place from Monday 7 May between 7am and 5pm and is expected to take around three months to complete, weather permitting.
“One lane will be closed on the Hume Highway during work hours and a reduced 40km/h speed limit in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
“There will also be lane closures with an alternating traffic flow in place on the Illawarra Highway across the Hume Highway during work hours.
“Motorists will have access to the Illawarra Highway at all times and should allow an additional five minutes of travel time.”
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience while work is carried out.
