New clearways on the way for King Georges Road between Peakhurst and Blakehurst

1 June 2018

Motorists will soon be able to enjoy a smoother journey with Roads and Maritime Services installing new weekend and extended weekday clearways on King Georges Road between Stoney Creek Road, Penshurst and Princes Highway, Blakehurst.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the clearways are part of the NSW Government’s $121 million Clearways Program which aims to reduce congestion and delays on Sydney’s roads by maximising the use of existing road space.

The new and extended clearways will be operational from Monday 25 June 2018, the spokesperson said.

“Introducing new and extended clearways on this busy transport corridor through Sydney will help manage traffic flow and improve journey reliability by ensuring all lanes are available for traffic and allowing vehicles to be towed if they park or breakdown.”

“Roads and Maritime is working with Georges River Council to provide additional timed parking on side streets near Connells Point Road shops and Blakesley Road shops to offset parking that will be removed from King Georges Road.”

“Parking will still be permitted for businesses and customers on King Georges Road between Connells Point Road and Princes Highway on weekdays between 10am and 3pm.”

“A single parked car can significantly reduce road capacity and cause major delays on road corridors during busy times so it is important to ensure all lanes are available to improve journey reliability for motorists.”

“Clearways will change the ability to park, pick up and drop off family and friends and allow deliveries to be made along the road.

To minimise disruption, work on the project will carried out between Monday 12 June and Sunday 24 June from 8pm to 5am Monday to Sunday, weather permitting.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.

Roads and Maritime Services thanks the community for its patience while work is carried out.
