Have a say on the stage two upgrade proposal on Nelson Bay Road
18 July 2018
Roads and Maritime Services invites the community to provide feedback on the proposed stage two improvements to the Nelson Bay Road and Medowie Road roundabout.
The NSW Government provided $8.3 million to improve road safety and reduce congestion on the Nelson Bay Road corridor, including funding to start planning for a further section of the four lane upgrade.
A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said the upgrade to Nelson Bay Road and Medowie Road roundabout will provide better connectivity for residents and people accessing Newcastle Airport and the Port Stephens region as well as improving safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
“The stage two upgrade proposal includes lane extensions, road widening, new line marking and extension of the existing cycleway,” the spokesperson said.
“The community can provide feedback before Friday 3 August by mailing: Stage Two Nelson Bay Road, Roads and Maritime Services, Locked Bag 2030, Newcastle NSW 2300. All feedback will be considered for inclusion in the final design and the community and motorists will be kept updated as the project progresses.
“Stage two of the proposed upgrade is expected to start at the end of this year, once the final design has been completed.
“Work on stage one will start in early August and will involve changes to line marking to provide a second right turning lane from Medowie Road towards Newcastle.
This work is due to be completed in mid-August, weather permitting.”
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the direction of signs and traffic control. For the latest traffic updates, download the Live Traffic NSW App, visit livetraffic.com or call 132 701.
