Customers encouraged to trial mobile pink slips

Roads and Maritime Services is after more customers to trial the new mobile pink slip program.

The service is part of the agency’s continuing initiative to put customers first and offers to have vehicle inspections carried out at home or a preferred location for pink slip renewals.

Melinda Bailey, Roads and Maritime Executive Director of Compliance and Regulatory Services said the trial is part of improving convenience and flexibility for motorists. We realise how busy life can be and are trying to make it as easy as possible for customers to have this service carried out.

“In the two months since the trial began over 440 customers have already jumped on board in Sydney metropolitan, the Illawarra, Central Coast, and Hunter regions,” Ms Bailey said.

A trial participant from Kurrajong has welcomed the easier and more convenient service, and was so pleased with the experience that she provided her feedback, “I used the service to get a motorbike inspected. My husband has passed away and I am selling his bike. I cannot ride it to a mechanic to get a pink slip. This service saved me.”

Cameron Whiteley, an NRMA mobile car servicing technician, looks after many customers in the Illawarra who are elderly. One of Mr Whiteley’s customers provided positive feedback on his services, “I am elderly and still authorised to hold my driver's licence, and this additional service gave me competent inspection with an organisation I trust.”

Ms Bailey said customers can follow an easy three-step process by simply contacting the one of the list of authorised providers, agreeing on a call out or travel fee, then identifying a safe and suitable area for inspection (including scheduled inspections without the customer being present at the time).

“This is a great new initiative that is delivering for our customers in a place and time that suits them. We strongly encourage people in the trial area to participate in this service and provide feedback on how we can improve the customer experience,” Ms Bailey said.

At the end of the trial, all feedback will be considered to help guide the industry working group on developing recommendations to improve this mobile service.

Mobile pink slip inspections are conducted on cars, motorcycles and trailers (including caravans).

The mobile pink slip trial started in late May and will last for around six months.
