Ballot and Ticketing FAQ

  • Oztix is an Australian owned and operated, independent online ticketing company that sells tickets for events on behalf of artists, venues, festivals and event promoters. Oztix has been operating in Australia since 2003.
  • An Oztix account will make it quicker for you to register for tickets. When you create a free Oztix account - Oztix will store your details. All you need to do is enter your email address and a password (provided by you) and your details will automatically be supplied. An Oztix account also enables you to receive email communication from Oztix should you opt in.
  • You create an Oztix account when you register for the ballot and can login with your email address and password.
  • If you have previously purchased tickets through Oztix, you will already have an Oztix account. If you're uncertain if you have an Oztix account, try and create one. If you have an existing account the website will notify you. If you can't remember your password, you can reset your password via your registered email address.
  • You can apply for up to five (5) tickets to either the 9pm or midnight fireworks.
  • There are approximately 3,000 tickets available for each session. Successful entrants will be drawn at random until there are no tickets left.
  • Yes. If successful you will receive the number of tickets requested in your ballot entry up to a maximum number of five (5) tickets.

  • All you need is a valid email address to enter.
  • You can only enter the ballot once. Multiple entries from the same email address or alternative email address owned by the same person will be deemed ineligible.
  • All tickets to the event are free for successful entrants.
  • No. Tickets are not transferable. Please select the option to decline your tickets in the successful applicant notification email sent or contact Oztix on 1300 762 545.
  • No. You can only redeem the number of tickets you requested in the ballot. All tickets have been allocated.
  • No. You can only redeem tickets to the session you requested. All tickets have been allocated.
  • No. Any ticket found for sale online will be cancelled by Oztix and reissued to a valid ballot entrant. Tickets have individual names printed on them that must match your ID.

Getting to and from the event

  • Road closures are in place throughout the CBD on New Years Eve. As such you are encouraged to utilise public transport. Please plan your trip ahead of time: https://transportnsw.info.
  • Entry to the event is located on the corner of Conservatorium Road and Macquarie Street. You will be required to queue on the grass adjacent to Macquarie Street prior to entry. There is NO access via Cumberland Street Steps, Macquarie Street Steps, the Royal Botanic Gardens Walkway or the Circular Quay Elevators.
  • Sessions open to patrons at 6:30pm and 9:45pm respectively. You will be required to pack up and exit immediately after the firework display has concluded.
  • Queueing opens at 4:00pm and 7:00pm respectively for the 9pm and midnight sessions.
  • If you have limited mobility and would like assistance getting to and from the Event you can call (02) 9228 3806 or email yasmin.favretti@dpc.nsw.gov.au prior to the event. An accessible viewing area and toilet facilities will be available within the event.

Security and prohibited items

  • Yes.
  • All guests and their belongings will be subject to a search by licenced security staff on entry to the venue. On arrival you will be asked to show your ticket before entering the queueing area adjacent to Macquarie Street. Before entering the event site your belongings will be thoroughly searched and your ticket will be scanned. An express lane is available for patrons not carrying bags etc.
  • No. Once inside the venue you may not leave. Should you need to leave before the end of your session you will not be allowed to re-enter.
  • No – this is an alcohol free event.
  • Yes. Please see below list of prohibited items:

    • Glass, cans or metal containers
    • Alcohol or illicit drugs
    • Any liquids - empty bottles can be refilled with water for free inside the Event
    • Bags / backpacks larger than A3 in size - excludes prams etc
    • Hard shell eskies and picnic baskets or cooking appliances
    • Chairs over 15cm
    • Furniture - including tents, gazebos or inflatables
    • Drones, professional cameras, recording equipment, tripods and selfie sticks
    • Sporting equipment - including balls, bicycles or skateboards etc
    • Musical instruments
    • Umbrellas
    • Fireworks or explosives
    • Weapons of any kind - including knives and metal utensils
    • Animals - excluding authorised companion animals
    • Clothing, banners or flags that may be deemed to contain offensive or inappropriate material
    • Any items deemed to present a safety risk by event security
    As well as anything else deemed by event management to cause nuisance or offence.
  • Outside food is permitted into the event site although you are encouraged to check the full prohibited items list for restrictions on bag sizes, glassware, utensils etc. No liquids of any kind are permitted through the entry gates – however empty bottles can be filled for free within the event and drinks can be purchased.
  • The event is smoke free.
  • Yes. Please ensure the medication remains within its original packaging and you notify event security at entry of any sharps etc within your belongings.
  • Yes. Please advise event security immediately if you require assistance.
  • Please stay calm and report to event security immediately.
  • Only authorised guide and companion animals will be permitted within the event.

  • A range of food and non-alcoholic beverages are available within the event. For specific menu or dietary enquiries please contact the General Enquires Help Line on 02 8071 4909.
  • Yes. However should you have severe food allergies we recommend bringing your own food items with you.
  • No. This is an alcohol free event.
  • No. Please ensure you come prepared.
  • Yes. Bottle re-fill stations and bubblers will be available in both queueing and event areas.
  • Yes. Unisex and accessible toilets are available within the event site.
  • Yes.
  • Yes. A range of free family friendly activities and roving performers will be at the event.
  • The event will proceed unless it is unsafe to do so. You are encouraged to come prepared for the forecasted weather as neither the queueing or event areas have shade or shelter. There is a chance the fireworks may not proceed if weather interferes.
  • No - however we recommend you check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. As no pass outs are permitted you are encouraged to come prepared.
