Renew or replace a driver authority

It’s your responsibility to renew your driver authority before it expires. We’ll send you a renewal form (PDF, 400Kb) prior to the renewal date on your authority.

Renewing your driver authority

Driver authorities are valid for three years.

Roads and Maritime Services will send you a renewal form prior to the renewal date on your authority.

To renew your authority, you need to complete the renewal form and lodge it either in person or by mail. You’ll also need to provide:

  • A medical assessment (if required)
  • Payment for the renewal fee:
    • If you are mailing your application, please complete the credit card authorisation on the renewal form, or provide a cheque or money order made payable to Roads and Maritime. Please do not send cash in the mail

    Medical assessments

    If you require a medical assessment when you renew your driver authority, Roads and Maritime will send you a letter advising of this requirement.

    Drivers over the age of 60 and drivers with specific medical conditions such as diabetes, cardiac or neurological conditions must provide annual health assessments.

    Late renewal

    You must renew your driver authority within three months of its expiry date. If your driver authority is expired more than three months, you will have to reapply for an authority.

    Replacing your driver authority

    If your driver authority is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed, you can apply for a replacement.
