Renewal or replacement of driver's licences for NSW licensees temporarily interstate or overseas
Roads and Maritime Services provides a photo-kit form to enable licensees who are unable to attend a motor registry, because they are temporarily interstate or overseas, to renew or replace their licences by post.
Under the National Driver Licensing Scheme, people who are residing continuously for 3 months or more in another State or Territory in Australia should convert their NSW photo driver licence to an interstate photo driver licence under the national no-fee transfer system. People who have taken up residence in an overseas country should obtain a driver licence in that country. For information about renewing your photo driver licence when you return from interstate or overseas, see Renewal Periods.
Photo-kits are not processed for customers whose licences have expired for 5 years or more or are subject to current law enforcement action, such as fine default licence cancellation and demerit points action.
Photo-kits are not processed for customers who have not provided sufficient proof of identity and only have interim paper driver licences. They must attend a motor registry and provide proof of their identity to renew or replace their photo driver licence.
Note: There is a limit of one photo-kit licence renewal for all NSW licensees. This means that if you choose to renew your licence for one, three or five years through a photo-kit application, for your next licence renewal you will be required to return to NSW.
Photo-kits forms can either be downloaded in PDF form or can be obtained from the Roads and Maritime Services Photo Licence Kit unit on telephone number +61 2 6861 1663 if the licensee is overseas, or if interstate telephone 1800 624 384 then press 0. Photo-kits can also be obtained by email.
