AMSA Update: National System for Domestic Commercial Vessel

Since 1 July 2018 AMSA is the point of contact for domestic commercial vessels and crew in NSW.

Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and Roads and Maritime Services have entered into an agreement, partnering in the delivery of Compliance and Enforcement activities. This new approach will see Roads and Maritime Domestic Commercial Vessel Safety Unit (DCVSU) undertake targeted safety audit inspections of domestic commercial vessels operating in NSW plus on-water safety interactions delivered by Boating Safety Officers.

The new DCVSU in partnership with AMSA will deliver:

  • Education, compliance and enforcement
  • Auditing of Accredited Marine Surveyors
  • Auditing of operators
  • Industry liaison
  • Focused safety and environmental standards compliance
  • Technical support
  • Updates on relevant laws and regulations
  • Registered Training Provider audit functions.

Other important functions of the DCVSU are delivery of education for domestic commercial vessel safety programs to the NSW industry to support compliance with relevant legislation and requirements, issue of Bar Crossing Approvals and provision of historical domestic commercial vessel documentation.
