Fees

All boating related fees and charges received by Roads and Maritime Services are paid into a Waterways Fund and directly support the delivery of boating related services and infrastructure for our customers.

Boating safety education campaigns, navigation aids, signage and compliance investigations are supported by the Waterways Fund. Boating NOW is a grant program supporting improvements to boat ramps and related public boating facilities.

Waterway access fee for an aquatic licence

The new Regulation introduces a waterway access fee, which is a new charge to allow an applicant to have exclusive use of public water space for a period of time. The Regulation states this fee is charged at "an appropriate market rate for the exclusive occupation of waters".

Roads and Maritime is developing a waterway access fee structure that reflects the value of having an exclusive benefit to a waterway space, and will consult with impacted and affected stakeholders to seek feedback on the implementation of the new structure.
