Richmond River, Broadwater
PACIFIC HIGHWAY UPGRADE BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
From Sunday 15 October 2017 till 28 February 2019
Vessel operators are advised that Roads and Maritime Services contractor Pacific Complete will be constructing a significant road bridge over the Richmond River at Broadwater approximately one nautical mile downstream of the sugar mill and upstream of Goat Island. These works have an estimated completion of February 2019. During this period navigation will be restricted in the vicinity of the works Zone.
NAVIGATION RESTRICTION AND WARNING
Jetty structures will be established from the shoreline and barges with heavy lift machinery will be active within the work zone.
An Exclusion Zone will be established approximately 200 metres both upstream and downstream, prohibiting all unauthorised vessels from the works area which will be marked by lit yellow special mark buoys.
Vessel operators are to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of the works and pay particular attention to construction work vessels, barges, anchoring cables and advisory signage.
This navigation restriction and warning remains in place for the duration of the works.
Roads and Maritime advises:
- Persons within the vicinity of the works must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the works or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
- Vessels are required to maintain a safe distance and speed from the works and vessel operators are reminded that the production of wash which impacts unreasonably on the works is an offence (Marine Safety Regulation – clause 11(2)) - Maximum Penalty $5,500.00)
A transit lane indicated by lit port and starboard lateral buoys will be established permitting navigation through the Exclusion Zone and a 4 knot speed restriction will apply. The transit lane may vary in location throughout the project.
