Navigation Restriction - Lower Myall River, Tea Gardens to Tamboy

(Marine Safety Act 1998 s.12)

Lower Myall River, Tea Gardens to Tamboy
Myall Classic Paddle
7:30am to 3:30pm – Saturday 16 September 2017

Vessel operators are advised that a Special Event pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998 is to be held on the Lower Myall River between Anzac Park, Tea Gardens and Tamboy village, between 7:30am and 3:30pm on Saturday 16 September 2017.

Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Roads and Maritime has granted an Exclusive Use Aquatic Licence to Paddle NSW Inc. to conduct the event, and an Exclusion Zone (‘the Zone’) will be established on the navigable waters of the Lower Myall River between Anzac Park, Tea Gardens and Tamboy village between the above times. The Zone will be patrolled by control vessels.

Roads and Maritime advises that in relation to the Zone:

  1. Persons within the vicinity of the Zone must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the Special Event or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
  2. No unauthorised vessels are permitted to enter the Zone and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.12(5) - Maximum Penalty $1,100.00)

Provision has been made for local vessel traffic to transit the Zone as authorised by control vessel operators. Vessels navigating within 100 metres of paddlecraft in the Zone must do so at a speed not exceeding 4 knots and must comply with any direction given pursuant to (a) above.
