Navigation Restriction - North Arm Clarence River, Mororo - New Pacific Highway Mororo bridge construction
(Marine Safety Act 1998 s.12)
North Arm Clarence River, Mororo
New Pacific Highway Mororo bridge construction
From Tuesday 31 October 2017 for approximately 12 months
Vessel operators are advised that Roads and Maritime Services contractors, Bielby Hull Albem, Advanced Foundation Solutions (AFS) and Bachy Soletanche will be constructing a new bridge on the Pacific Highway over the North Arm of the Clarence River at Mororo, immediately downstream of the existing Mororo Bridge. The works will commence on Tuesday 31 October 2017 and will continue for approximately 12 months. At times during this period, the navigable spans under and areas around the Mororo Bridge will be closed to navigation.
A navigation channel indicated by port (red) and starboard (green) buoys, (which will be lit at night), will be in place for the duration of the works to allow vessels to transit through the area at all times.
SPECIAL EVENT/CONSTRUCTION ZONE
Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, a Special Event Area/Construction Zone (‘the Zone’) will be established around the works on the navigable waters of the North Arm of the Clarence River upstream and downstream of the existing Mororo Bridge.
The Zone will be marked by yellow special marks (yellow buoys) and lights at night, at intervals of approximately 20 metres.
NAVIGATION RESTRICTION AND WARNING
Vessel operators are advised that a 4 knot speed restriction applies approximately 100 metres both upstream and downstream of the existing Mororo Bridge. Vessel operators are to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of the works and to pay particular attention to construction work vessels, barges, anchoring cables, lighting & day shapes and any advisory signage.
This navigation restriction and warning remains in place for the duration of the works
Roads and Maritime advises that in relation to the Zone;
- Persons within the vicinity of the Zone must comply with any directions given by any Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the Special Event or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00)
- No unauthorised vessels or persons are permitted to enter the Zone and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.12(5) - Maximum Penalty $1,100.00.
