Vessel operators are advised that a Special Event pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998 is to be held on the Richmond River between Coraki and Woodburn, and from 12 midday to 4pm on Saturday 11 November, from 8am to 1pm on Sunday 12 November 2017, from 12 midday to 4pm on Saturday 3 March and from 8am to 1pm on Sunday 4 March 2018.


Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Roads and Maritime has granted an Exclusive Use Aquatic Licence to the Tweed River Water Ski Club Inc to conduct the event, and an Exclusion Zone (‘the Zone’) will be established on the navigable waters of the Richmond River from the Coraki Boat ramp extending  approximately 12 nautical miles downstream and rounding just before the Woodburn Road Bridge between the above times on the sbove dates. The Zone will be will be marked with a series of high visibility buoys with safety and monitoring craft in attendance.


Roads and Maritime advise that in relation to the Zone;

  1. Persons within the vicinity of the Zone must comply with any directions given by any Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the Special Event or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
  2. No unauthorised vessels or persons are permitted to enter the Zone and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.12(5) - Maximum Penalty $1,100.00)

Access to the waterway via the Coraki boat ramp is not restricted however boaters must operate upstream of the boat ramp so as not to interfere with the Zone. Vessels navigating this are must do so at a speed not exceeding 4 knots, must produce no wash, and must comply with any direction given pursuant to (a) above.
