Navigation Restriction - Clarence River, Yamba - Channel maintenance dredging works

December 2017 to July 2018


Vessel operators are advised that the Department of Industry - Lands will be conducting channel maintenance dredging works on the Dart Island channel leading into Yamba Boat Harbour on the Clarence River at Yamba, commencing December 2017 until July 2018. During this time a dredge and pipeline will occupy the channel area and a hopper barge will occupy a site between Dart Island and Hickey Island, Yamba. 

The navigable channel will remain open, the dredge will display appropriate lights and shapes.  The hopper barge will transit to Sea and return to the site frequently during the maintenance works.  The barge will be lit at night.


Vessel operators are advised to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of the works and to pay particular attention to the dredge passing side and danger side as indicated by appropriate lights and shapes, the pipeline, anchor cables and hopper barge. Observance of “100 metre Distance Off - 4 knot” requirements will be enforced.

This navigation warning remains in place for the duration of the works.


Roads and Maritime advises:

  1. Persons within the vicinity of the works must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the works or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
  2. Vessels are required to maintain a safe distance and speed from the works and operators are reminded that the production of wash which impacts unreasonably on the works is an offence (Marine Safety Regulation – clause 11(2))- Maximum Penalty $5,500.00)
