Navigation Restriction - Manning River, Taree - Vessel stability trials

(Marine Safety Act 1998 s.12)

Manning River, Taree
9:00am to 4:00pm - Saturday 24 February 2018
9:00am to 12:00pm - Sunday 25 February 2018

Vessel operators are advised that a Special Event pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998 is to be held on the Manning River, Taree between a point just West of the Martin Bridge and a point at the Western end of Dumaresq Island between 9:00am and 4:00pm on Saturday 24 February and between 9:00am and 12:00pm on Sunday 25 February 2018.

Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Roads and Maritime has granted an Exclusive Use Aquatic Licence to David Warby to conduct the event, and an Exclusion Zone (‘the Zone’) will be established on the navigable waters of the Manning River, just West of the Manning River Drive Bridge and a point at the Western end of Dumaresq Island at Taree between the above times on the above dates. The Zone will be patrolled by control vessels.

Roads and Maritime advise that in relation to the Zone:

  1. Persons within the vicinity of the Zone must comply with any directions given by any Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the Special Event or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
  2. No unauthorised vessels or persons are permitted to enter the Zone and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.12(5) — Maximum Penalty $1,100.00)

Provision has been made for vessels to transit the Zone during breaks in the trials. Control vessels (via control vessels and control points on shore) will, at times during the trials, authorise vessel traffic to transit the Zone. Vessels navigating the transit zone must comply with any direction given pursuant to (a) above.
