SPECIAL EVENTS

Vessel operators are advised that Roads and Maritime Services have declared that the above events, which are to be held on the Hastings River (back channel), are Special Events pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998.

The Ironman Practice Swims will be held at a location between the Marine Rescue boat ramp and the downstream side of the Park Street road bridge adjacent to the Broadwater Main Canal, on the back channel of the Hastings River, Port Macquarie between 6:00am and 8:30am on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 May 2018.

The Ironman Race Swim Leg will be held at a location between the Marine Rescue boat ramp and The Broadwater Main Canal either side of the weir, on the back channel of the Hastings River, Port Macquarie, between 6:00am and 11:00am on Sunday 6 May 2018.

The Ironman 70.3 Race Swim Leg will be held at a location between the Marine Rescue boat ramp and the downstream side of the Park Street road bridge adjacent to the Broadwater Main Canal, on the back channel of the Hastings River, between 6:00am and 11:00am on Sunday 6 May 2018.

EXCLUSION ZONE

Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Roads and Maritime has granted an Exclusive Use Aquatic Licence to USM Events Pty Ltd. to conduct the events, and an Exclusion Zone (‘the Zone’) will be established on the navigable waters of the Hastings River (back channel), Port Macquarie as outlined above on the above times and dates. The Zone will be patrolled by control vessels, who will advise vessel operators that entry is restricted.

DIRECTIONS

Roads and Maritime Services advise that in relation to the Zone;

  1. Persons within the vicinity of the Area must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the Special Event or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
  2. No unauthorised vessels are permitted to enter the Zone and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.12(6) - Maximum Penalty $1,100.00)
