Navigation Restriction - Murray River, Swan Hill - Swan Hill Bridge works
(Marine Safety Act 1998 s.12)
Murray River, Swan Hill
SWAN HILL BRIDGE WORKS
Wednesday 7 March to Friday 1 June 2018
Vessel operators are advised that due to bridge works, a Special Event pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998 has been declared on the Murray River at the Swan Hill Bridge, Swan Hill, from Wednesday 7 March to Friday 1 June 2018 inclusive.
Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, a Regulated Area with Special Restrictions (‘the Area’) will be established for the entire width of the Murray River and for a distance of 150 metres in upstream and downstream of the Swan Hill Bridge, Swan Hill, between the dates detailed above.
Pursuant to section 12(3) of the Marine Safety Act 1998, Special Restrictions apply to all vessels navigating within the Area as follows:
- A maximum speed of four knots; and
- A ‘no wash’ zone is imposed.
Spans of the bridge affected by maintenance work closed to navigation will be marked by channel blocked markers or buoyage and patrolled by authorised officers.
All vessel operators and persons using the waters specified above should keep a proper lookout, comply with local buoyage and signage, and exercise extreme caution when navigating near the works.
The bridge maintenance will not result in a loss of functionality to the bridges lift span.
Vessel operators are advised divers will be in the water during the works and vessels associated with the diving operations will be displaying an Alpha Flag, which is a white beside blue flag with the blue section featuring a swallow tail.
During daylight hours a closed (blocked) channel will be marked by a series of three shapes in a vertical line comprising ball–triangle–ball, and during the night or at times of restricted visibility, by a series of three lights in a vertical line comprising red–green–red.
