Navigation Restriction - Murray River, Barham

(Marine Safety Act 1998 s.12)

Murray River, Barham
Friday 20 April to Friday 29 June 2018

Vessel operators are advised that due to bridge works, a Special Event pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998 has been declared on the Murray River at the location of the Barham Bridge, Barham, from Friday 20 April to Friday 29 June 2018 inclusive.

Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, an Exclusion Zone (‘the Zone’) will be established on the navigable waters of the Murray River and at the location of the Barham Bridge, Barham, between the above dates.

Spans of the bridge affected by maintenance work will be closed to navigation and will be marked by channel blocked markers, buoyage, and patrolled by authorised officers.

Note: The only navigable channel during the works is the central channel under the Lift Span. Vessel operators are cautioned that the vertical clearance through this span is 5.3m above riverbed - which will be reduced naturally as the prevailing water column rises on any day. An appropriate safety margin to should also be applied.

All vessel operators and persons using the waters specified above should keep a proper lookout and exercise extreme caution near the exclusion zone and check vessel heights at a slow speed prior to navigating through the central channel.

The river level conditions can be found at NSW Water Information, Daily river reports: Murray River.

A closed (blocked) channel will be marked during the day by a series of three shapes in a vertical line comprising ball – triangle – ball, and during the night by a series of three lights in a vertical line comprising red – green – red.
