Sportsmans Creek, Lawrence (off the Clarence River)
BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION WORKS
8 August 2016 to approximately 7 August 2017
Vessel operators are advised that Roads and Maritime Services will be conducting construction work for a replacement road bridge over Sportsmans Creek (a tributary of the Clarence River) at Lawrence, for a period of approximately 12 months commencing 8 August 2016. At times during this period, the navigable channel may be reduced to be 15 metres wide and other normally navigable areas will be closed to navigation.
Lit Port and Starboard Aids to Navigation and where required “Channel blocked” lights and shapes will be displayed. Work barges and other plant will remain onsite for the duration of the works.
Vessel operators are advised to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of the works, and to pay particular attention to construction works vessels, lighting, information signage and reduced channel widths and clearance heights. This navigation warning remains in place for the duration of the works.
Roads and Maritime advises:
- Persons within the vicinity of the works must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the works or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
- Vessels are required to maintain a safe distance and speed from the works and operators are reminded that the production of wash which impacts unreasonably on the works is an offence (Marine Safety Regulation 2016 – clause 11) - Maximum Penalty $5,500.00)
